About PMAWCA

The Port Management Association of West and Central Africa (PMAWCA) is a sub-regional, intergovernmental, economic organisation established during the historic inaugural Assembly of October 1972 in Freetown (Sierra Leone) by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).

Its first constitution was signed by representatives of nine member ports and the Secretary General of UNECA.

The Association is a specialised organ of the Maritime Organisation for West and Central Africa (MOWCA).

As of now, it is made up of thirty-five Members, out of which 22 are regular members, 10 are associate members while 2 members have observer status.

All are located along the west coast of the African Continent, stretching from Mauritania to Angola except the observer members which are France and Spain.

The membership comprises of English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish speaking countries whose activities cover a coastline of about 9,400km along the Atlantic Ocean.
